Overview

A hearing aid is a purchase people postpone for a long time. What usually makes the decision hard is not the price but the unknown process: how is the test done, how is the device tuned, how long does adaptation take?

The site was built around exactly those questions. The product catalogue was simplified into behind-the-ear, in-ear and rechargeable models, each explained in terms of the hearing loss level it suits rather than technical jargon. A separate "process" section walks through every step from the first test to the final check-up.

Because a large share of the audience is older, type sizes, contrast ratios and touch targets were all set larger than usual. The appointment form was designed to be completed on a single screen with minimal fields, and a direct call button was pinned on every page.

Highlights

  • Enlarged typography and contrast for an older audience
  • Catalogue simplified by hearing loss level
  • Step-by-step process explanation from test to fitting
  • An appointment form completed on a single screen

Objectives

  • Remove the uncertainty around buying a hearing device
  • Make it easy to book before visiting the centre
  • Build an interface that is accessible to older users

Solution

  • Structuring the process explanation as its own section
  • Grouping products by need rather than technical specification
  • A pinned call and booking action on every page
  • A colour palette that meets WCAG contrast ratios

Approach

  1. 01Collecting patient questions from the centre's specialists
  2. 02Accessibility-led interface design
  3. 03Development and testing with real users

Outcomes

  • Repetitive questions asked over the phone dropped noticeably
  • Appointments began arriving through the online channel
  • The centre can now present its full range digitally

Challenges

  • Simplicity that matches the digital habits of an older audience
  • Accurate, non-exaggerated language for a health product
  • Making technical specifications understandable
